Job Description

The duty of the Cafeteria Attendant is to work an assigned shift in the Staff Cafeteria or at the quick serve outlet using the P.O.S. System, provide quality meals while maintaining a clean service area and eating environment for the guests.



  • Promote the values of the Great Blue Heron Cultural Compass by example at all times and guide staff in adopting these values as a way of operating daily at the Great Blue Heron Casino
  • To be knowledgeable about and proficient in the preparation of items pertaining to all regular cafeteria menu items, quick serve items and daily options; including items that are cooked in the cafeteria and at the quick serve outlet (Panini grilled items, sandwiches, quesadilla etc.)
  • The cafeteria attendant is responsible for preparation of items pertaining to cafeteria and quick serve menus
  • The cafeteria attendant will pick up their items from the kitchen upon notification of their readiness; the cooks are not required to deliver.
  • To fully comprehend the working of the P.O.S. System including Shift Changing Procedures, opening and closing procedures and cash settlement
  • Responsible for completion of the daily and weekly cleaning, and maintaining cleaning lists
  • Must be familiar with storage locations of all supplies such as dishes, condiments and cleaning supplies; and be consistent with stocking these supplies to allow efficient accessibility for the next shift change
  • Responsible for notifying the kitchen in a timely manner by radio and/or phone of any cooked product needed and will plan accordingly to ensure ample stock levels are maintained during breaks.
  • Ensure all related stock levels are met and maintained.
  • Will maintain the levels of products required, in designated storage areas (freezer and fridge), to be readily available to the cooks for easy and efficient preparation of cafeteria and quick serve items.
  • Responsible for maintaining and cleaning: all counter areas, tables in the break room, and cleaning in their prep areas
  • Assist with duties of the cooks and stewards as required
  • To know, understand and keep up to date on departmental policies and procedures; i.e. the cafeteria attendant is prohibited from any cooking in the kitchen. This includes putting items in pots, pans, steamers, deep fryers, ovens, any container or equipment pertaining to cooking.
  • Ability to work days, afternoons and midnights (a 4 week schdule will be provided)
  • Perform other duties as required by the Sous Chef



Education and Experience:

  •  Minimum of 1-2 years of kitchen or service experience including P.O.S. operations
  • Show initiative and understanding of other roles and responsibilities in the kitchen
  • To accept training as necessary when required by the Sous Chef, Kitchen Manager or F&B Manager
  • WHMIS Certified


Knowledge/Skills and Abilities:

  •  Good knife skills
  • Ability to follow directions in a friendly and professional manner
  • Maintain complete knowledge of and comply with company and departmental policies and procedures
  • Be thoroughly familiar with the causes of food poisoning and method of prevention
  • Ability to analyze current inventory and develop daily prep lists in order to control waste and spoilage
  • Ability to prioritize and possess excellent time management and organizational skills
  • Maintain a positive working relationship with fellow employees and management as part of a team
  • Excellent customer service skills in order maintain a good rapport with customers and employees
  • Ability to work with little or no supervision, independently and under pressure in a fast paced environment
  • Ability to perform tasks and duties effectively and safely within prescribed time limits
