Job Description

Security Officers play an integral role in maintaining the overall security and protection of the Casino complex and shall consistently discharge their duties with the highest professional standards as per this position description.

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

  • Promote the values of the Great Blue Heron Cultural Compass by example at all times and guide staff in adopting these values as a way of operating daily at the Great Blue Heron Casino
  • Excellent internal and external customer service are required to be displayed at all times
  • Ensure that any violations or suspected violations of the Gaming Code, the Criminal Code of Canada, the Gaming Control Act 1992, the Terms and Conditions of Registration, the Ontario Casino Corporation Act or the regulations made pursuant to these Acts are logged accordingly and reported to the Security Management Team as soon as possible
  • Remain vigilant in monitoring at assigned post and/or assigned duty in order to protect the safety of the Casino’s visitors and employees, the Security of Casino assets and the operations in whole
  • Ensure all irregular, unusual, suspicious, or illegal activities are controlled and reported as soon as possible and subsequently logged accordingly
  • Escort patrons and employees requesting escorts to their vehicles
  • Answers emergency call to provide efficient and immediate care to ill and injured patrons and employee
  • Assist in training of staff on emergency procedures as directed by Security Management Team
  • Ensure the accurate and neat recording of all activities in the appropriate registries, logs and reports, as required
  • Collate statistical information as required
  • Maintain a physical presence on the gaming floor and the surrounding complex as a deterrent to major and petty crime
  • Maintain crowd control, as required
  • Ensure that all security equipment is functioning correctly and to report any and all functions to the Security Management Team immediately
  • Respond to all alarms, duress situations or incidents promptly
  • Comply with all company rules, regulations, policies and procedures at all times
  • Safeguard all confidential information and to exercise due care to prevent its improper disclosure or use
  • Required to be licensed by AGCO and Ministry of Community Safety and Correctional Services
  • Must be able as part of the Site Security responsibilities, to shuttle patrons from the patron parking area to the Main Entrance, and return when requested
  • Operate 10 passenger shuttle bus with current “G” driver licence
  • Must greet all patrons as they enter the shuttle, and make them feel welcome by providing superior customer service
  • Ensure the safety of patrons when boarding and leaving the shuttle bus/van
  • Maintains professional appearance at all times and interacts with guests courteously at all times
  • Ensures understanding of casino hours of operation, guest services provided, casino amenities, and special events and promotions occurring within the property
  • Performs a variety of support functions for the department including fueling, cleaning vehicles, and maintaining working knowledge of internal policies.
  • Maintains and promotes good public relations and communications with our guests.
  • Comply with all company rules, regulations, policies and procedures at all times  
  • Perform other duties as required by the Security Supervisor/Shift Manager

QUALIFICATIONS:

 

Education and Experience:

  • Must possess a Community College diploma in Law & Security Administration or Police Foundations, consideration may also be given to those applicants with an equivalent amount of Security related work experience
  • Required to be licensed by Ministry of Community Safety and Correctional Services
  • Preference will be given to applicants with specialized skills training in the following areas; Conflict Resolution, Workplace Violence, Standard First Aid/CPR Certificate, Fire Extinguisher Training
  • Smart Serve Certificate
  • Must have a valid Ontario Drivers License – Class G

 

Knowledge/Skills and Abilities:

  • Have exceptional customer service skills
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively both orally and in writing in the English language
  • Possess a good level of physical fitness
  • Ability to work in a high volume establishment
  • Be detailed oriented and able to work in a team environment
  • Participates effectively as a team member to work cooperatively towards a team goal
  • Must maintain a valid Ontario driver’s licence Class G
  • Requires a current First Aid and CPR Certificate
  • Computer and software application knowledge is also required
  • Very good oral and written skills
  • Good problem solving skills, and able to take direction
