Job Description

A Host/Hostess for the Water’s Edge Restaurant is a teamwork and customer service oriented position. As a Host/Hostess you will be required to oversee the smooth seating of our valued guests that wish to dine in our facility through effective table management.  A positive, team player attitude is essential for individual satisfaction and the best positive overall results.  

 

Primary Shift Responsibilities

  • Promote the values of the Great Blue Heron Cultural Compass by example at all times and guide staff in adopting these values as a way of operating daily at the Great Blue Heron
  • Remain visible to guests at the restaurant Host/Hostess Podium
  • Greeting and welcoming guests in a genuine, positive and friendly manner
  • Seating guests in the restaurant in a timely manner
  • Managing cue into the restaurant as expeditiously as possible during peak hours
  • Moving tables and chairs to accommodate large groups
  • Offering the Waters Edge Buffet Restaurant information
  • Offering the Lucky Stone Bar and Grill Restaurant information
  • Asking for PC cards, coupons or other promotional offers
  • Enter # of Guests and # of buffets being purchased into SilverWare POS System
  • Seating guests according to table seating rotation when not accommodating a special request to be sat else where
  • Accommodating and respecting the need for special seating requirements for the elderly or handicapped
  • Walking slowly with guests to the table
  • Lighting the candle at the table for the guest to indicate an “active table”
  • Informing the guests who their server will be and that they will be right with them. ““Your server is Mary today, and she will be right with you.”
  • Informing the servers of tables sat outside their sections or with special circumstances
  • Manual tracking and recording of guest seating ie: time, # of people, head count per section
  • Seating control ie: fair equal distribution among floor staff
  • Facilitate general information for guests i.e. directions, menus, hours of operation, promotions, up & coming events
  • Distribute and collect customer comment cards
  • Perform other duties as required by the Food and Beverage Supervisor

 

Secondary Shift Responsibilities

  • Cleaning A La Carte menus
  • Maintaining a neat and organized work area
  • Grouping tables for larger parties
  • Setting up stanchions for crowd control
  • Offering facility information when asked
  • Answering the house phone “Thank-you for calling The Water’s Edge Buffet Restaurant. This is ________. How can I help you?”
  • Open communication with Co-workers and Supervisors at all times

 

GBH Charity Casino Policy and Procedures

  • Follow all policies and procedures in the Liquor Procedures Manual
  • Adhere to policies set out in GBH Casino’s ICM
  • Complete knowledge of GBH Casino’s Employee Handbook

QUALIFICATIONS:

 

Education and Experience:

 

  • Minimum of one year Food and Beverage experience
  • Previous Hostess experience an asset
  • Customer service oriented back ground
  • Smart Serve Certified
  • WHMIS Certified

 

Knowledge/Skills and Abilities:

 

  • Ability to follow directions and carry them out in friendly and professional manner
  • Strong personal organizational skills
  • Ability to perform tasks and duties effectively and safely within prescribed time limits
  • Maintain complete knowledge of and comply with company and departmental policies and procedures
  • Be thoroughly familiar with the causes of food poisoning and method of prevention
  • Possess and utilize excellent customer service skills to the best of your ability
  • Maintain good rapport with guests
  • Maintain a positive working relationship with management
  • Contribute as part of a team
  • Excellent verbal and written communication
  • Willing to take initiative and desire learn
  • Work both independently and/or supervised competently while under pressure in a fast paced environment
  • Ability to work productively during slower periods utilizing self initiative to keep busy
