Job Description

To provide the maintenance and grounds team with the equipment and physical structure required to facilitate the routine maintenance of the facility; grounds, building and support systems. To improve all operations through a planned program of continuous improvements, and to provide ongoing support to the maintenance group

 

Responsibilities:

  • Ensure preventative maintenance by reviewing the PM program for equipment, driving the timely repair of broken equipment, coordinating either internal maintenance staff or external contractors
  • Implementing continuous improvement programs involving changes to equipment, processes or services and procedures
  • Implementing solutions to Health and Safety and environmental awareness
  • Arrange for training of operators and maintenance staff including modification of equipment
  • Ensure adequate manuals, schematics, etc. are available and distributed
  • Assist in the capital expenditure process, to ensure that adequate and competitive equipment is available to the team
  • Assist in tracking inventory requirements and sourcing solutions including spare parts are available
  • Liaison with contractors and senior management
  • Ensure adequate staffing resources are maintained, to ensure the safe and effective operation of the facility
  • Assist the Facilities Manager of departmental administration requirements, including; payroll processing, report writing, time scheduling, conflict resolution, W.S.I.B investigation (accident)
  • Monitor and manage individual employees including performance management and disciplinary process according to Collective Agreement and Company Policies and Procedures as well as employee development
  • Other duties as assigned by the Facilities Manager

 

Qualifications:

  • Minimum five years experience required in all faucets of facility maintenance including, H.V.A.C., Fire suppression and alarm systems, automated building control systems, mechanical – electrical and plumbing systems, data and telecommunications systems with cabling experience, and U.P.S. / emergency power sources
  • Must be licensed in one of the trade areas, H.V.A.C., Plumbing, Electrical, Carpentry, or Facility Maintenance and/or possess the equivalent qualifications OR a degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering Technologist or Technician along with related experience
  • Must have 2 years experience with Water / Wastewater Treatment Operations policies and procedures
  • Must have strong building construction / maintenance experience within a commercial environment
  • Foreperson in a unionized workplace
  • Project Management experience
  • Excellent written, verbal communication, time management, and computer skills
  • Show leadership ability, initiative and self-discipline within a team environment
  • Strong understanding of troubleshooting techniques
  • Be familiar with the OH&S Act and Regulations
  • Formal knowledge of related maintenance legislation including; The Building Code (OBC and NBC), Fire Code, Water and Wastewater legislation
