Job Description

The Great Blue Heron Casino is currently looking for 2 part time Maintenance Technician.

 

The Maintenance Technician will effectively perform, manage and prioritize maintenance work under the direction of the Maintenance Supervisor/ Facilities Manger following all

policies and procedures of the GBH. The Maintenance Technician will perform various

duties in all areas of building maintenance including but not limited to: Carpentry, Plumbing, Electrical, Painting/Drywall repair, HVAC Systems, Water Supply and Treatment, Good Housekeeping practices and a safe work attitude is essential.

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

  • Promote the values of the Great Blue Heron Cultural Compass by example at all times and guide staff in adopting these values as a way of operating daily at the Great Blue Heron Casino
  • Complete all minor carpentry duties including but not limited to: Assemble or repair broken equipment or furniture, changing card table layouts, installing shelving or cabinets, hanging pictures and performing minor building projects as required. Ensure that the casinos building schematics are kept current and up to date.
  • Complete all minor plumbing duties including but not limited to: Inspecting & replacing broken or defective pipes, toilet components, repairing minor water leaks, clogged drains, beverage dispensers, minor soldering jobs, etc.
  • Complete all minor electrical duties including but not limited to: Perform a daily inspection of all interior/exterior lighting. Installing new (or replacing existing) electrical outlets, light fixtures & bulbs, extension cords, power bars, circuit breakers, assist in fishing of phone computer or electrical cable etc.

  • Minor painting and /or drywall repairs will be required on a routine basis.

  • GBH maintains a service agent/contract for effecting major repairs to the casinos heating and air conditioning systems, periodic inspection and adjustment of the climate control system/computer may be required. Ensuring contractor adherence in performing the required scheduled PM and sharing of information will be important.

  • Perform daily inspections of pumps and conduct periodic purification testing of the casino main water supply system. Also perform daily inspections of the on site sewage treatment plant. Identify and deficiencies or problems and effect corrective action.

  • Maintaining a clean and safe operation is equally important and will be a primary job function.

  • Monitor the performance of snow removal, grass cutting and waste disposal contractors. Clear and salt pedestrian/staff entranceways if necessary. Report any deficiencies, concerns or recommendations.

  • Act as designated liaison for all outside service contractors working on the premises. Ensure that all contractors perform their work in compliance with any applicable legislation. Arrange for the purchase, shipment and receiving of any required equipment or materials.

  • To perform other duties as required by the Maintenance Supervisor and Facilities Manager

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

 

Education and Experience:

  • Minimum 5 years experience in maintenance within a commercial environment
  • High School diploma or equivalent required
  • Must be in possession of a valid trade certificate (ie. Building Maintenance Mechanic, Electrician, Plumber, Carpenter, Millwright
  • WHMIS Certified

  • Water and Wastewater treatment certification preferred

  • Previous Casino maintenance experience preferred

  • Hypochlorination certification required. (Those not in possession of a valid certificate will be required to successfully complete the training course related to Portable Water Treatment within the first three months of employment.)

  • Experience in all areas of maintenance repairs including; plumbing, electrical, mechanical, carpentry, drywall and painting.

Knowledge/Skills and Abilities:

  • Must have a class G drivers license with a good drivers abstract.
  • Knowledge of applicable health and safety legislation, WHIM, National Fire Code and the OHSA Industrial Regulations is preferred.
  • Knowledge and experience in commercial H.V.A.C operation and maintenance
  • Operating knowledge of building automation and control systems
  • Knowledge of Fire and Life Safety equipment including sprinkler suppression systems, electronic detection systems and related valves and pumps
  • Ability to work within confined spaces
  • Must be able to work in a team environment and independently
  • Ability to work on ladders and elevated devices
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds
  • Specific knowledge of: Workplace safety and Insurance Board – safety policies and W.H.M.I.S training
  • Ability to work days, afternoon and midnights during any day of the week. (A 4 week schedule will be provided) It will be mostly weekends but must be able to work during the week also when required.
